About the campus and Ningbo

The 114 acre University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus was opened to students in 2005.  It is about 3 hours drive or train journey south of Shanghai and is one of the busiest ports in China. It is 114 acres and provides purpose-built facilities for 7000 students including:

  • on-site residential facilities for all students and staff
  • restaurants and shops
  • a dedicated sport complex
  • state-of-the-art teaching, research and student services buildings

Ningbo literally means ‘tranquil waves’ and is a seaport with a population of more than 2 million.  It is located south of the Hangzhou Bay and is close to the East China Sea.  The Hangzhou Bay Bridge, which was completed in 2009, connects Ningbo with Jiaxing and is the longest trans-oceanic bridge in the world.  It has considerably cut the journey time when travelling between Shanghai and Ningbo by car.
