Company Visit – Powder Metallurgy
Today we visited Ningbo Kingbell Powder Metallurgy Co., Ltd. The factory tour was arranged for our Mechanical Engineering Students as part of the Materials and Materials Forming Module that I lecture. The students could see how what they had learned in last week’s lecture about powder processing and sintering looks in practice.
During the trip I was very happy to see the sheer enthusiasm with which the students approached the shopfloor manager, the machine operators, and the vice manager. The students were constantly talking to all of them, asking lots of questions. I would like to blame the noise on the shopfloor for not having been able of catching the questions, answers, and explanations… but it might have been due to my lack of Mandarin language skills… To me it looked as if the students had hundreds of questions. In fact my Chinese colleague told me “They want to know everything”.
In conclusion, I was really pleased to see the excitement and interest that our students displayed today. This was also due to the time the staff of Ningbo Kingbell Powder Metallurgy Co., Ltd. took to show us around and to explain the equipment and processes to the students in order to make this a great experience for them. It is for this reason that I would like to thank Ningbo Kingbell Powder Metallurgy Co., Ltd. and its staff! I would also like to thank Gigi Lu who has organised this trip
In the picture you see the first of three groups visiting the company. The visits for the other two groups are scheduled for Thursday 13.00-15.00 and Friday 13.00-15.00 (this also indicates the commitment of the company spending so much time receiving the students in small groups).
